A plastic parts manufacturer is now up and running inside the 125,000-square-foot building that used to house Mr. Gasket Inc. and Mallory Electric.

Polymer Plastics Corporation, formerly of Reno, signed the lease for the building at 550 Mallory Way on Jan. 1, said founder and CEO Larry Stock.

The company's products include custom plastic parts, such as tubing and sheets, largely for manufacturers on the East Coast and in Mexico, Stock said. Most of the business comes from Internet commerce.

The company was established in 1975 in California and opened its Reno office in 1993.

Stock said he decided to move the company to Carson City to save on business costs that had grown as a result of the recession but also because of a dispute over the company's Reno location after a wind storm in 2002 blew the roof off.

To keep the business running, Stock said he had to sell one of his three prized cars - a De Tomaso Pantera. He and his wife both drive Panteras, with "His" and "Hers" personalized licenses plates.

Stock is a De Tomaso Pantera aficionado, collecting, building and driving the Italian sports car that went out of production in 1991.

Stock's Carson City facility also will double as a Pantera parts distributor - only one of six in the world, he said.
