The Douglas High softball team took command of first place in the Sierra League standings Saturday afternoon, splitting a doubleheader at Damonte Ranch to claim the overall series win against the Mustangs.
Douglas dropped the opener narrowly 5-4 but came back to win the nightcap, narrowly, 4-3.
The series win pushed Douglas' league record to 12-3 while Damonte dropped to 11-4.
The Tigers still have solid Galena and Fallon squads left on their schedule.
Kalee Duryee picked up the win in the circle in Game 2, giving her two for the series.
She struck out one, walked four and scattered eight hits in a complete-game effort.
Douglas fell behind 3-0 through the first three innings before a one-run double from Morgan Blomstrom followed by a one-run double from Rebecca Trute cut the gap to 3-2 in the top of the fourth.
Douglas took the lead for good in the following inning as Blomstrom reached on an error with two runners on, allowing Maddy Gilbert to score and Brenna White singled to score Katrina Morgan.
Gilbert went 2-for-4 in the game, Morgan was 2-for-2 with a pair of runs scored and Blomstrom, Trute, White and Amanda Caras each had one hit.
In Game 1, Caras drove in a pair of runs, Gilbert and White each had a pair of hits, Morgan doubled and Blomstrom, Emily Weaver, Nikki Chavez and Aliyah Paxson each had one hit. Blomstrom and Trute each had RBI as well.
