The wind sensor at Walker in Mono County recorded an 82 mph wind gust on between 8:47 and 9:47 a.m. Tuesday, which barely tops our 81 mph wind gust at Sheridan. Lee Vining reported a gust of 80 mph. Winds hitting the Galena Creek Bridge were clocked at 107 mph. Damage from Tuesday's wind storm included power lines down, tree limbs falling and a rain of sticks.
Ebbett's Pass picked up another 3 inches of snow in this latest storm, bringing the snow depth up to 77 inches. According to the Natural Resource Conservation Service snow telemetry, the snow-water equivalent of 36.6 inches is at one of its highest points during the entire winter, making this a pretty Awesome April.
Six rooms at Whittell High School are testing above parameters for radon. The library, library office, library conference room, the coaches' office, the kiln room and the copier room are all above the 4 picocuries per liter set by the EPA. The kiln room is the hottest of the set with 11.2 picocuries. The school district's maintenance department is working to increase the air circulation in most of the rooms.
