Wolf Creek fire smoke visible in Valley

Smoke from a fire burning six miles south of the Wolf Creek trailhead in the Carson-Iceberg Wilderness is visible in Carson Valley.

The Wolf Creek fire has grown to 270 acres and is burning in lodgepole pine on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest.

According to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch spokesman Todd Chaponot, the fire was sparked by a lightning strike on July 25 and smoldered until 7:55 p.m. Tuesday.

Six hand crews and five helicopters comprising 169 firefighters are working on the fire.

There are no homes threatened nor are any roads or trails closed as of the latest update at 7 p.m.

Helicopters have been seen loading water in Carson Valley.
