The Blomes' United Shows, a street carnival company, unloaded 25 or 30 tons of trappings on Main Street Tuesday and by Wednesday a tented city sprung up and by nightfall the spielers were shouting their wares. The joy zone is attracting large crowds nightly and the Ferris wheel and other attractions are being well patronized. The Carson Valley Band furnishes music for an hour each night and received a certain percentage of the receipts for their services.

Prohibition is not overcrowding the prisons. It is not the bootleggers who are jamming the jails and making conditions so intolerable that prisons revolt. Of the 116,670 prisoners in state prisons on Jan. 1, 1930, it is shown that only 31⁄2 percent were violators of prohibition laws. The rapid increase in the number of state prisoners has not been caused by prohibition cases, as the unemotional statistics show, but by the growth in the number of convictions for theft, burglary, larceny, forgery, assault, and hold-ups. There are actually seven states without a single prohibition violator in their prisons. Among them are New York, Nevada, Montana and Arizona.

Tahoe Village, a 650 condominium subdivision on top of Kingsbury Grade, offers residents a breathtaking view of Carson Valley or Lake Tahoe from its steep, pine dominated rocky slopes. The majority of the condominiums in the subdivision approved for 1,006 in the late 1960s sell as interval ownership or time share units. The Ridge Tahoe, one of several interval ownership projects on the Grade, costs $25,000 for a week's ownership.

Douglas County Manager Dan Holler says Wal-Mart is shopping for a Carson Valley location, and the corner of Highway 395 and Muller Lane is a prime candidate. The land is now zoned for agriculture, but owner Dangberg Holdings Nevada has asked for master plan changes that would ultimately allow commercial development on 70 acres while guaranteeing 450 acres along the Carson River and another 25 acres east of Gardnerville would stay agricultural.
