Antique tractor show finds new home

The Northern Nevada Antique Power Club's annual tractor show is a go, but in a new location this year.

Begun in 1996 by Bill and Dorine Ramsden on their property along Heybourne Road, the annual event may attract 3,000 people and dozens of running antique tractors, engines, cars and machinery dating as early as the 1800s.

This year Ramsden passed the torch to Pat and Ann Geary, who live on East Valley Road, off Pinenut Road in Gardnerville.

The tractor show is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 21-22 at 1000 East Valley Road. The Geary homestead may be seen on the right as you travel up Pinenut (or Dump) Road.

"I have 20 John Deeres - it's a sickness," said Pat Geary. "The oldest one is 1929 and the newest is 1958, and they all run. I also have some other 'parts' tractors."

The tractor show features tractor pulls and games, swap meet, silent auction and a display of hit-and-miss engines.

"Hit-and miss-engines did different things, like grinding corn," said Geary. "They hit a spark, then miss. You think they're going to die, but they're designed to do that because they didn't use so much fuel."

Geary said people may bring their own tractors, but should show they have liability insurance.

"If They don't have insurance, they can join the Antique Power Club for $8.95, and then they'll be covered by the club's insurance," he said.

The Northern Nevada Antique Power Club's annual tractor show is 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 21-22 at 1000 East Valley Road. Cost is $3, and free for 12 and younger. Carson Valley Sertoma offers food and beverages for sale. Information, Pat Geary, 291-2001.
