My sincere apologies go out to the Douglas County Historical Society's July photo contest winner Candy Stewart. Her name appeared incorrectly in last week's column and the fault is entirely mine.
We want to thank everyone who participated in our Taste of the Towns last weekend. We had excellent restaurants and shops both in the parking lot and along the walking route. Everyone who attended raved about the good food and the fun shops. We particularly want to thank those outdoor only venues that braved the weather to stay and treat the guests. We want to thank everyone who bought a ticket to help support our historical society and our museums. We are most grateful to Alpine Douglas County Chapter of Thrivent Financial for their faithful support of this event.
We also want to apologize to all the restaurants, shops, musicians and walkers for the unfortunate weather last Saturday night. This is a desert and we do need the rain, but it was a shame that it decided to arrive during this year's Taste of the Towns. Sadly, one severe gust of wind all but destroyed the booths in the parking lot. Those hearty souls who did show up did have a great time and we will joke about walking in the rain for some time to come.
Those of you who did show up voted for your favorites and we have tallied up the winners. We have new winners this year and we hope you will visit their establishments to support them in the coming months.

Upcoming August events include a Chautauqua performance by Nevada teacher Janet Bremer, who will portray Comstock socialite Marie Louise Mackay at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park. Call 783-9417 for information.
The Thirsty Third Thursday Wine Walk is Aug. 19. The theme this month is Rockin' '50s. The walk starts at 4:30 p.m.
Don't forget the August photo contest. That winning photo will complete the 2011 calendar.
