Topless motorist Brandi Smith may find out this morning if she will be allowed to participate in a program designed to dry out felony drunk drivers without sending them to prison. She admitted back in June to her third conviction of DUI in less than seven years, which carries a 1-6 year prison sentence. The diversion program lasts up to five years and requires her to attend biweekly DUI court sessions twice a week, spend the first six months on house arrest and she has to participate in mental health court.
A half-dozen of the public guardian's wards are on the court calendar today for reports on their status as promised. Public Administrator Lynn EnEarl is going through each of the files and preparing reports to the court. Including today's there have been 16 such hearings so far this month.
The weather wheel spun around and landed on low pressure moving into Northern California on Tuesday. That will result in a fire weather watch for all the eastern slope of the Sierra. Expect gusty winds and low humidity to suck all the moisture out of vegetation, turning it tinder dry. Winds will be 15-20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Anticipate a red flag warning for Tuesday afternoon.
