A memorial service will be in Twin Falls, Idaho, 3 p.m. Sept. 4 for former Gardnerville resident Frieda Agnes Darland Bottoms Hoffman, 101, who died Aug. 6, 2010.

Born July 19, 1909, in Jefferson County, Meriden, Kan., to Doane A. and Mollie Barry Darland, she moved to Buhl, Idaho, in 1922. She grew up there and married John Bottoms. After Mr. Bottoms' death she worked and went to night school to learn bookkeeping.

She was a single mother in the 1950s when she married Ira Hoffman. They operated an orchard in Twin Falls, then a motel in Hailey, Idaho. They later returned to Twin Falls, where she was active in the Methodist Church, Easter Star, Rainbow Girls and various social organizations. After retirement, the couple wintered in Blythe, Calif., for a few years.

She is preceded in death by husbands John O. Bottoms, and Ira J. Hoffman; and son Duane E. Bottoms.

She is survived by son Noel L. Bottoms of Gardnerville; step-daughter Sandra Hoffman Bodensteiner of Boise, Idaho; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Son Noel Bottoms said his mother's wisdom and council were valued by those who knew her.
