Douglas County Parks & Recreation offers activities and classes for children to seniors. Registration is required for all classes. Information at 1327 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, or 782-9828.

Happy Notes Music Mommy & Me. Two- to 5-year-olds explore music and movement with instruments, body motions, parachute play, musical games and activities. Parent participation required. Class is 9:15-10 a.m. Tuesdays Sept. 7-26, or 4-4:45 p.m. Thursdays Sept. 9-30. Cost is $45.

Dragonfly fingerprint platter. Children 7 to 12 create ceramic food-safe platters, 3:30- 5:30 p.m. Sept. 14, and 4-4:30 p.m. Sept. 21. Cost, $25.

Teen dance for sixth-eighth graders with DJ music is 6:30-9 p.m. Sept. 17 at the Douglas County Fairgrounds Building. Cost of $10 includes a slice of pizza and a drink.

Tap class. Students age 9-13 learn tap dance basics, Tuesdays, Sept. 14-Oct. 5, at the Dance Workshop. Cost, $45.

Renaissance swordsmanship. Students 13 and older learn the basic techniques of swordsmanship, 7-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays Sept. 1-29. Cost, $35.

Ballroom dance. Learn fundamentals of fox trot, swing, waltz and Latin dances. Class is 6:30-7:30 p.m. Fridays, Sept. 10-Oct. 1 for adults, and 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 14-Oct. 5 for ages 9-13, at Dance Workshop in Minden. Cost, $80 per couple.

Dog obedience. Establish good conduct and curb bad habits in a dog obedience class by instructor Guy Yeaman, Wednesdays, Sept. 1-Oct. 6, at the Carson Valley Middle School parking lot. Teach your dog to obey the commands heal, sit, stand, stay and recall. Dogs must be at least 4 months old, have a choke chain and fabric or leather lead. Cost is $80.

Concealed weapon certification. Course meets and exceeds Nevada State concealed weapon certification requirements for handguns. Class is 6-9:30 p.m. Sept. 15 and Sept. 17 at the recreation annex, and 8-11 a.m. Sept. 18 at the Douglas County Shooting Range. Cost is $90 plus a $10 insurance fee.

Scrap booking. All day crop with instructor Jackie Gordon, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11, at Gardnerville Elementary School. Tools available. Cost of $10 includes snack and water.

CPR Certification. Learn CPR and first aid 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 11 at Great Basin Home Heath. Cost, $65.

Photographic composition. Learn photographic design, composition and how to use lenses, 7-9 p.m. Tuesdays Sept. 21-Oct. 5, at the recreation annex building. Cost, $35.

Beginning tai chi. Warm-ups, exercises and repetitions, Saturdays at Lampe Park by the senior center. Cost, $5 a month.

Yoga focuses on the body, mind and spirit with concentration on control, stretching and breathing. Class is 9:30-11 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays, Sept. 2-30, at the recreation annex building. Cost, $40.

Natural health approaches. Receive a complete personal health evaluation and learn natural ways to support and heal your body with foods, herbs, supplements and remedies. Class is 1-2 p.m. Tuesdays, Sept. 7-28, at the recreation annex building. Cost, $40.

Discovery Center. Preschool and extended day kindergarten begins Sept. 7. Open house is 12:30-7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 and 2 at the Discovery Center, 1327 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville. Information, director Cindy Webb, 790-1235.
