The Douglas County Sheriff's Protective Association announced its endorsement of candidate Lawrence Howell for county commissioner.

Howell is challenging Nancy McDermid for the District 4 seat. The Douglas County Sheriff's Protective Association is comprised of 95 percent of the jail officers, deputy sheriffs, and investigators employed by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

"We are pleased to announce that the board of directors was unanimous in our vote for endorsing your candidacy in the upcoming elections," the association wrote Howell.

Both McDermid and Howell are Republicans. Howell is chairman of the Douglas County planning commission. McDermid is a former planning commission chairwoman.
