A Gardnerville bicyclist injured in an Aug. 11 accident on Highway 395 in Minden told family members that she was walking her bicycle when she was struck by a pickup truck in Minden.
Roger Collins said 71-year-old Iola Mae Frazier's breathing tube was removed and she was able to tell him and father Ralph Collins what happened to her.
"She said she got off her bicycle and was walking with it on the sidewalk when the pickup came out of the bank parking lot," Roger Collins said. "She said the driver checked traffic coming from the north, but didn't look her direction before pulling out."
Collins said Frazier suffered severe injuries from the accident, in which the pickup dragged her out into the middle of Highway 395. She will need skin grafts.
Frazier was northbound on Highway 395 in Minden on the southbound sidewalk when she was struck by the pickup, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
According to the NHP, Frazier was riding her bicycle the wrong way on the sidewalk.
She was helicoptered to Renown Medical Center where she remains hospitalized.
Her father Ralph and brother Roger are up from Downey, Calif., to look after her and follow up on the accident.
