Special to The R-C
Kids and Horses brought out their best tack to sell to the community. Horse lovers, wild donkey owners and curious garage sale collectors came to the ranch to see the wide array of tack that Kids & Horses had collected from donors over the years.
"My husband and I want our children to grow up riding and we are always looking for tack sales to pick up deals. This one is great!" Said, Lindsey Lewallen.
Kids & Horses made close to $1,000 at their tack sale that was from 9am-noon at the Kids & Horses ranch located in Minden, Nevada at 2869 Esaw Street, off of Stephanie Way.
The next day, August 29, 2010, Kids & Horses celebrated their students with their annual play day and community barbecue. Although there were clouds in the sky, the weather was refreshing and the students had a great time playing musical horses, red light green light and boys against girls barrel racing. After the competition, all of the students received ribbons which they proudly wore at the barbecue that was held at the ranch after the games. Over 75 people came to the Kids & Horses ranch to tour the facilities, meet other supporters and volunteers and congratulate the students.
"This is the most successful barbecue we have ever had, not only because of attendance but because of how long people stayed to enjoy each other's company." stated Kids & Horses instructor and equine manager Judy Holt.
If potential supporters may have missed the weekend of events, Kids & Horses invites the community to their Western barbeque, silent/live auction and Sierra Star Search fundraiser, Saturday, September 11 at 5pm at the Crystal Bay Club, Crystal Bay, NV. This gala event helps Kids & Horses fund scholarships for students in need and assists with expanding programs to serve the dozens of children on our waiting list. This evening will include: Dinner, silent/live auction event, surprise entertainment and the ever-popular youth talent contest for scholarship money, Sierra Star Search - Kids Helping Kids. Exciting auction items are always a feature of the annual Kids & Horses fundraiser.
