Douglas County lost another 8.3 percent in property value, with the county's total for the fiscal year starting July 1, 2011, at $2.711 billion, down from $2.995 billion. The vast majority of county homeowners won't see that decrease, though. Assessor Doug Sonnemann said property taxes on 10,417 of the 13,839 residential parcels in the county will increase by the full 3-percent cap.

Minden is saying farewell to three of its longtime town board members tonight. Bob Hadfield, Ross Chichester and Dave Sheets have been on the Minden Town Board since Reagan was president. There have been claims they are members of the longest serving board in Nevada. I don't know about that, but I'll bet Minden is one of the few boards in the state to term-limit out all of its members. Minden meets 5:30 p.m. in the CVIC Hall.

Minden's Kids & Horses and one of its students in the therapeutic riding program will be featured at 5 p.m. today on KRNV News Channel 4. For information on how to become a volunteer or donor, contact Kids & Horses at (775) 771-5512 or alexis@kidsandhorses.org

It's forecast to hit a balmy 45 degrees under mostly sunny skies today. It's 20 degrees in Genoa just as the sun is rising, it's 21 degrees in Minden. If you're going to Gardnerville's Christmas Kick-off at 5:30 p.m., bundle up because it will be about 35 degrees out.
