Loving the Douglas library

Here I go again. It's me, the library volunteer who can't keep her pen still. I read with interest the Nevada Appeal front page article regarding the Carson library.

Almost everything said about the Carson City Library applies to the Douglas County Public Library in Minden. Yes, the librarians can go to each second-grade class with information packets, including applications for a card.

The youth librarians are all nice, friendly, helpful people. No stuffy or grim librarians allowed. They work hard to entertain and inform youth of all ages.

Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are read-aloud sessions for the very young. The just made gingerbread houses. The teens have their own group and play Wii and eat pizza on a regular basis.

Of course, the library has computers to use, and online homework help, but you do need a card to access it (it's free, remember). The library is a WiFi hot spot. It's also a kid's Safe Place.

Generous Valley residents donate books and the library has a continuing book sale in the lobby.

There is a the annual sale at the CVIC Hall (just completed) where thousands of items were available.

There are mini-theme sales periodically in the Minden as well as the Zephyr Cove Branch. You did realize there is a Lake Tahoe branch?

Sorry to ramble on so long, but I enjoy the library so much that I want other people to, as well.
