Carson Valley is always a key contributor at Channel 2's annual Share Your Holiday Food Drive, which kicks off at 6 a.m. today at the Carson Valley Inn in Minden.
The drive-through food drive lasts 12 hours and gathered a whopping 76,156 pounds of food for the Carson Valley Community Food Closet last year.
"Last year was phenomenal and I think this year will be even more phenomenal," said food closet board chairman Len Frueh. "I believe Raley's has been trying to tell me they have more food this year, but I said I wanted to be surprised. Last year they brought 45,000 pounds of food."
Len said Channel 2 anchor Bill Brown will be serving as MC for this year's drive. He'll be joined by Erin Breen and there's a possibility that Ron Percival will be down to do the weather.
The Four Preps will be the 6:30 a.m. warm-up act and the Nancy Barker Duo will be performing. Santa is due to arrive by Care Flight Ambulance Helicopter at 9:15 a.m. The Douglas High School Jazz Band and the Carson Valley and Pau-Wa-Lu middle school bands will also be performing.
