The Red Hut Cafe, a Lake Tahoe breakfast and lunch institution for 51 years, is now open for dinner and drinks at its newest location at Ski Run Boulevard and Highway 50.
The restaurant is open for dinner Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 4:30-9:30 p.m., with specials including baby back ribs, meatloaf and pulled pork sliders.
True to the Hut's long-held philosophy, the dinner menu offers hearty servings at a great price. A three-course meal with salad, potato, entree, plus beverage (beer, wine or fountain drink) is $9.99 to $14.99. Evening diners can also choose from classic breakfast and lunch favorites such as omelets, pancakes, burgers and sandwiches or opt for one of the featured nightly specials.
Dollar night is Thursday, Dec. 16. Diners can choose from different menu items offered for only $1 each: Beer, wine, pulled pork sliders and Red Hut Rosti are all offered for only $1.
Nightly specials rotate with the Red Hut Rosti (hash browns with bacon or ham, cheese, sour cream and onions), baby back ribs, cheeseburger, pulled pork sliders, meatloaf dinner, coconut shrimp, chicken parmesan sandwich and spaghetti with meat sauce.
The Gardner family has owned and operated the Red Hut Cafes for 26 years and will now keep the famous "Hut is Shut" sign off until 9:30 p.m. instead of the long-held 2 p.m.
"After years of customers wanting it, we thought we should give it a try," said co-owner Kelly Gardner.
The restaurant has a large main dining room and separate back area for special occasions or parties.
