A wind advisory has been issued for Carson Valley by the Natioanl Weather Service starting 7 a.m. Tuesday morning
Winds will increase Tuesday morning and reach their peak gusts on Tuesday afternoon and evening.
Motorists should expect southwest winds 20-30 mph with gusts to 55 mph. Windprone areas, such as Highway 88 through Carson Valley could experience winds of up to 65 mph.
Cross winds will be especially treacherous along north-south routes like Highway 395, according to the Weather Service.
Motorists in high-profile vehicles should use caution and watch out for sudden gusts.
A winter weather advisory has been issued for the Lake Tahoe basin starting at 7 a.m. According to the weather service, light snow wills tart Tuesday morning increasing in the afternoon.
Accumulations of 6-12 inches are expected above 7,000 feet with up to 18 inches along the Sierra crest. Up to 6 inches is expected below 7,000 feet with smaller amounts along the east shore of Lake Tahoe.
Wind gusts of up to 100 mph are expected across the ridges.
The weather service is advising that heavy snow could cause travel delays on Highways 89, 50, 431, 28 and 267, as well as Interstate 80.
There's a chance of rain in the Carson Valley with up to a tenth of an inch expected to fall between 10 p.m. tonight and 4 a.m. Wednesday.
