Young Chautauqua starts Jan. 11

The Douglas County Historical Society's Young Chautauqua program begins with an informational meeting, 7 p.m. Jan. 11, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville. Students in fourth to 12th grades are invited to choose a character from history to research and present in the first person. The Young Chautauqua program participants take part in a T-shirt design contest. The students receive a T-shirt with the winning design.

The group meets every other week for 11 sessions starting Jan. 18, and performs in character under the tent at Mormon Station State Park June 15 and 16.
