The Douglas High girls' basketball team ran into a wall against its Alaskan counterparts Thursday night, losing to Juneau, Alaska Douglas 55-24 at Pau-Wa-Lu-Middle School.

Juneau is the defending 4A state champions in Alaska and held a decided height advantage over the Lady Tigers, sometimes by more than a head per position.

"They were very good," Douglas coach Werner Christen said. "We probably could have played them 100 times and they would have beaten us 100 times. They were just that good. That's all you can say.

"They didn't have any weaknesses and their penetration on offense just killed us."

Douglas strong together a couple of promising runs during the game but could not overcome a 15-0 deficit to start the game.

The closest the Lady Tigers came was in the second quarter when they cut the lead to 22-11 on a basket from Jackie Harper.

Diana Regalado led the Tigers with seven points.

The Tigers were originally slated to travel to Lowry Friday night, but that trip was cancelled due to snow. The two teams are scheduled to meet up Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
