The National Weather Service has added a winter weather advisory to its high wind watch, special weather statement and hydrologic outlook on the Web page. Low pressure over the Pacific is supposed to push lots of moisture into the Sierra over the weekend. Expect snow levels to go up and down like a yo yo, running from the Valley floor to lake level and then back down again during the evenings. It sounds like a good weekend to hunker down and decorate the Christmas tree.

There's a dusting of snow on my car, so far, and there's light snow falling in Genoa. The Nevada Department of Transportation is showing road controls over the passes and at the very highest portions around the Lake. If travel takes you south, chains or snow tires are required on Highway 395 at the state line. Expect the roads around the lake will get worse as the day wears on.

Today is the last day of school in Douglas County for Christmas break. We'll get to see all the school children back next year.

The weather will be tuning up today, with snow before 10 a.m., then a mixture of rain and snow. Expect the high to reach 35 degrees. It's possible we'll see 1-3 inches of snow today, which will be washed away when the storm converts to rain at 10 p.m., according to the weather service.
