The 4-H program has a history of turning out outstanding public speakers. If your children get the jitters when they have to make presentations at school, Cooperative Extension's free Speaking With Confidence 4-H Program may be what's needed for them to conquer their fears and learn public speaking skills. The course will be held 4-5 p.m. Mondays Jan. 31 - April 4 at the Douglas County office of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension, 1329 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville.

The program is designed specifically for youth ages 9 and older and includes topics such as controlling nervousness, interpreting body language, interviewing, and using audio-visual aids. Students also learn the importance of practicing and setting goals. Instructor Steve Lewis, Douglas County Extension Educator, is an accomplished public speaker who makes the course fun and lively for youth.

Interested youth do not need to be a current member of a 4-H club. This project is free of charge. Sign up by Jan. 25. For more information or to register, call the Cooperative Extension at 782-9960. The 4-H clubs are youth development and leadership programs of University of Nevada Cooperative Extension.
