Markleeville resident Beth Shrum is now offering private, individualized Pilates sessions at K2 Pilates in Gardnerville with an emphasis on "rehabilitation and an assortment of bodywork modalities."
Shrum trained in ballet for 15 years, starting in California, then moving onto the Pinkerton in Carson City, Walnut Hill in Boston, the University of Utah's Utah Ballet, and professionally with the City Ballet of San Diego.
Pilates became a part of her life during her last four seasons in ballet. She said she fell in love with its "mind and body connection."
In 2001, Shrum became certified in mat Pilates and finished her year-long apparatus training in 2003 through Marie Jose Bloom of Long Beach Dance conditioning, under the direction of Cathleen Murakami of Synergy Systems in Encinitas, Calif.
In Flagstaff, Ariz., Shrum owned and operated her own Pilates studio, Full Circle Pilates, for seven years. While teaching and running her business, she became certified in Touch for Health, levels 1 and 2, a kinesiology and Chinese meridian-based system of healing, Ashiatsu Oriental Bar Therapy, a deep tissue massage executed by one's feet, and additionally was trained in multiple modalities including visceral manipulation, cranio-sacral, lymph drainage, soft and deep tissue, and myofascial.
Outside of teaching, Shrum races sleds with her seven Siberian huskies, "enjoys world travel and whatever nature and the outdoors have to offer."
K2 Pilates is located at 1512 Highway 395, Suite 4, Gardnerville. Shrum can be reached at their main line, 783-9033, or at 720-3947.
