Chains or snow tires are required on Kingsbury Grade and Highway 50 along Lake Tahoe in Douglas County. Pretty much anywhere above 6,500 feet is going to require some sort of help getting around. Highway 88 through the Sierra is closed just past Pickett's Junction, and four-wheel drive or chains are required to get over Highway 50 or Interstate 80. There's a high wind warning for 395 in Washoe Valley.
Heavenly Ski Resort is reporting 18 inches of snow fell during this latest storm last night. Kirkwood's reporting 19 inches over the last 24 hours, not that anyone could get there right now. It rained most of the night with the Ranchos receiving .22 inches of rain.
It's warm this morning in the Valley, with 36 degrees in Genoa, 38 degrees in Minden and 37 degrees in the Gardnerville Ranchos. Those are going to be today's high temperatures. Expect the rain to continue until about 10 a.m. when the snow level drops to the Valley floor.
Carson Valley is under a winter weather advisory until 4 p.m. with snow showers likely and the temperature dropping to 24 degrees in time for the evening commute. Expect breezy conditions with 20-25 mph winds gusting to 40 mph. There won't be much snow, but wet roads will freeze over, so be careful.
