A 23-year-old Gardnerville man is charged with two felonies in connection with the discovery of 10 pounds of marijuana at his residence that he claimed to be safeguarding for an acquaintance.
Kevin Mullen told deputies he refused to give back the marijuana when he discovered the owner was selling to juveniles and had an underage girlfriend.
Mullen's attorney, Kris Brown, told East Fork Judge Tom Perkins on Wednesday that her client wanted to contact deputies about the drug, but was afraid he would be arrested.
That's what happened after the owner of the marijuana made an anonymous call to the sheriff's office to tip them that Mullen was in possession of the marijuana.
According to Mullen, the person made the call in retaliation because Mullen wouldn't return the marijuana.
Mullen was arrested Dec. 24 at his residence in the 1300 block of Chichester Drive.
He reportedly agreed to keep the marijuana because he was to receive 50 percent of the profit from the sales of the drug to a single source.
Mullen was charged with possession of a controlled substance for sale and conspiracy to violate the Uniform Controlled Substances Act.
His next court appearance is a Jan. 7 preliminary hearing.
