Man hurt in Highway 395 wreck stable in ICU

A Gardnerville man injured in an automobile accident on Dec. 23 is in stable condition at Renown Regional Medical Center's intensive care unit.

Ronald John Smith, 46, was turning left onto Highway 395 from Airport Road at about 2:05 p.m. when a northbound Ford pickup collided the driver's side of his1993 Ford Taurus.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, there was a vehicle turning right onto Airport right in front of the pickup.

Smith was wearing his seatbelts and the airbags of the Taurus deployed. The force of the collision folded the drivers side door into the sedan's passenger compartment.

Smith was taken by East Fork Ambulance to Fire Station 12 in Sunridge, where Care Flight ambulance helicoptered him to Reno with critical injuries.

The driver of the pickup was taken to Carson Valley Medical Center for minor injuries. He was also wearing his seatbelt.

The accident is still under investigation.
