The Nevada National Guard's mission in Arizona concluded Sunday precisely at the same time that Nevada Guard deployments in support of Haitian earthquake recovery effort began.
All three of the helicopters dispatched to Arizona on Jan. 25 to provide aerial transportation of supplies in the wake of a massive snowstorm have concluded their missions. Two of the helicopters have returned safely to Reno and one flew to Texas for maintenance.
During the week, the two Blackhawks and one Chinook combined to make a total of 39 deliveries on the Navajo and Hopi Native American nations and distributed 105 cases of meals ready-to-eat and 103 cases of water to rural residents.
While the Army Guard helicopters and their crews returned to Nevada today, two Nevada airmen were deployed to Haiti to provide support. They are both personnel specialists.
One Army Guard public affairs officer was also deployed to provide support of the Haitian mission.
