The Douglas High girls' basketball team got off to a quick start Tuesday night at Wooster and ended up needing every bit of it in a 48-46 win in Reno.
The Tigers outscored the Colts 17-4 to open the game, but had to withstand a furious Colts rally in the second half before Katie Dry hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to win the game.
The Tigers carried a 33-21 lead into halftime after using a 9-0 first half run to build a sizeable lead.
The Colts, though, outscored Douglas 10-5 in the third quarter and 15-10 in the fourth, taking a 46-45 lead with 3.2 seconds left on the clock.
Coming out of a Douglas timeout, the Wooster scorekeeper triggered the buzzer for a split-second as the ball was inbounded, which caused confusion on the floor. Douglas' Ne'Jae Jackson caught the inbound pass at halfcourt and looped it to Dry, who was waiting at the outside of the arc and banked in a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded.
Jackson led the Tigers with 11 points, Dry had 10, Tia Lyons had nine, Bri Burnside had eight, Diana Regalado had four, Jackie Harper had three, Natalie Freitas had two and Carly McCullough had one.
The Lady Tigers have now won four of their last five games and appear to have the inside track for the Sierra League's fourth seed in the upcoming Northern 4A Regional playoffs.
They have a key league showdown with Manogue - a team Douglas lost by just two points to earlier in the season - Friday night at 5:15 p.m. in Minden.
