Making things happen

Opinion sections of our papers give us inkling about how people think. Harold Johnson of Gardnerville writes about people who make things happen, people who watch what happens, and those who are unaware.

Johnson makes things happen - or tries to. So do I. I keep tear sheets on opinion columns of our local papers. I also listen to what people say or don't say.

Our country is bankrupt. We have many serious problems. There are no quick fixes. Yet we have an administration and congress that think and act otherwise.

William Hinds of Dayton wrote that Congress doesn't get it - meaning the will of Americans. Other Dayton writers, Steven and Sandra Markoe question, "What is happening to our freedom?"

Another Gardnerville resident, Gary Griffith, writes that our representatives have become "like hogs at the feeding troughs (our wallets)." They do not listen. They are not concerned with working for Americans. And even worse, the more you feed them the more they take.

Griffith writes we can continue to allow a corrupt government to lead us into financial ruin or one that will act in a responsible transparent way answering to "we the people, and not special interests. Consider the impact of mind boggling amounts of money we don't have, and future generations will have to cope with - that is if China doesn't own our country by then."

Ron Landmann of Minden wrote "Wake up and smell the taxes - they're a coming." Mary January of Gardnerville wrote about her concern.

She pled for us to "be vocal," as we were about Walmart.

That didn't do much good, did it?

So what else can we do? Those who write, do.

Those who are vocal, speak out.

Although I know of a group who at their social pot lucks do not talk politics, yet they complain about taxes and the educational system.

I asked what they thought about health care. The reply, "Oh we never talk about that!" I replied, "Why not?"

"It's against the rules. No religion and no politics."

I can understand the religion part. But Obama's health care?

No denying we need revisions, but these folks don't even seem to have a clue, don't care, or are forever healthy.

If there ever was a time, it is now. We need to write, be vocal, and there are other little niggly things.

We can start looking at the economic situation. Stop buying things from China.

Check it out.

A good place is Walmart. They have big holdings in China. Walmart netted billions in profits last year.

Hmm. Maybe we should get Walmart to replace Congress.

They have a team approach. They make big money. We could get out of debt and stop the football game squabbling between the Reps and the Demos.

Think about it.
