Having a rough time dealing with annoying car alarms

Toyota cars might be going through a rough time right now. I love my wonderful Tercel and it gets 44 miles to the gallon which makes it hard to justify ever getting rid of it until it dies.

Last Sunday it took on a life of it's own by alarming its car alarm that I have not ever used since I bought it six years ago. It started honking in the church parking lot, then at breakfast and again at the grocery store parking lot. Then on and off the rest of the day at home anytime I opened the door. I actually had three neighbors call and offer assistance realizing I was having a problem.

I remembered as a child one of our vans had an alarm and it would go off every time we had wind in San Diego. I have just never had a problem with my car. First thing I did was to cut the wires going to the switch. It still kept chirping and setting it back on arm.

Next I pulled out the horn fuse from under the hood. Then I heard lots of clicks lights flashing and my car wouldn't start at all. Time for a repair shop.

After $50 and 40 minutes of catching up on some reading, my car is back to normal except the automatic door locks had to be disabled because the alarm was somehow tied to it. Oh well, I do remember how to manually lock and unlock a car door.

There are big congratulations going on for not only the geography bee winners Jack Hayes, Lee Jongsma and Maddy Weiss, we also had spelling bee winners Kiersten Boyd, Megan Kerrigan and Maddy Weiss again. Good job, kids.

Science Fair is this week. Make sure your display board is organized and easy to understand. You have to have a scientific method, be able to explain your project to the judges and, remember moms and dads, it is your child's project. Hope to see you there.

Remember, there is no school next Monday and Tuesday, Feb. 15 and 16.

Nevada Wandering Wheels

The informal get-together for the Nevada Wandering Wheels is 5 p.m. Thursday at Centerfield Sports Bar in Gardnerville. If you ride a motorcycle or just like to talk about it, this is a great group.

Are you retired military? The Fleet Reserve Association Branch 137 may be the group you would like to join. Call president Jim Laird for more information at 265-1857.

Happy birthday to my baby sister today. We love you, Christy!
