The Douglas County Board of Equalization meets today and Thursday at the Douglas County Administrative Building in Minden. Members of the board will hear appeals of residents' property values. If they agree to reduce the value, then they will figure out how many of the surrounding homes are also affected. The meeting gets under way at 9 a.m. today.

Gov. Jim Gibbons is in town today to speak to the Sierra Nevada Republican Women luncheon at Two Guys from Italy. I expect it will be a packed house, so it's a good idea to arrive early. The social starts at 11:30 a.m. Cost for lunch is $15.

A light snow fell in the Valley overnight, but it doesn't appear to have affected road conditions. The forecast for today is for mostly sunny skies and a high of 47. A light breeze of 5 mph. The next burst of moisture is expected early Friday morning.
