Regional wrestling championships this weekend

The Northern 4A Regional Wrestling Championships begin today at 3:45 p.m. at Reno High School.

Spanish Springs and Carson are the big players for the team title this season, although Reno, Damonte Ranch or Fallon could end up figuring into the mix.

Douglas has a number of high seeds heading into the tournament.

Dillon Spates (125) and Patrick Miller (215) earned No. 1 seeds out of the Sierra League.

Michael Sepulveda (130) is a No. 2 seed, Zach Falanga (189) is a No. 3 seed and Cody Spates (140), Austin Martin (135) and Kyle Mathews (160) each earned No. 4 seeds.

Daniel Lundergreen (145) and Wes Peterson (119) are also scheduled to wrestle at the regionals, but did not garner seeds.

Final seeding and pairings for the tournament will be determined at noon today.

The tournament continues Saturday with the championship finals scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
