A 32-year-old Gardnerville man who owes more than $60,000 in child support was encouraged Tuesday to pay something before he is sentenced April 6 for felony nonsupport.
He pleaded guilty on Tuesday.
"I don't care if you eat. I don't care if you sleep inside," District Judge Dave Gamble told Jeremi Schortgen. "I care about one thing - whether you paid child support as ordered. I would recommend you not come back here and tell me you haven't paid anything. I will have no incentive to give you probation."
Schortgen was ordered in 2002 to pay support for his two children.
As of Oct. 15, 2009, he owed $60,226.55.
"You have to be a pretty deadbeat dad to get charged with a felony," Gamble said. "I can hear you saying things like, 'she doesn't let you see them - you, you, you.' I don't care," Gamble said.
Schortgen faces up to five years in prison, a $10,000 fine and must pay the child support.
