Portraits of young girls swept the monthly Carson Valley Photo Club contest with top honors going to Wendell Jenness for his shot of a beggar girl in Egypt.
"It was heart wrenching," he said of a girl he spotted while on a trip to Cairo, Egypt. "She just looked at me with those eyes." The black and white photo also caught the hearts of judges for the competition and they gave the photo a blue ribbon.
Second place went to Tamyra Crossley's portrait of her daughter sitting on a stool. Mary Kay Kaluza took third place with a picture of a girl with a beach hat.
The photo club's winning images are on display at Douglas County Public Library in Minden.
Professional photographer Diana Basche, owner of Photo Happy in Minden, was guest speaker at the club's Feb. 9 meeting.
Nature photographer Steve Ting addresses the club March 9. The March photo contest theme is birds and agriculture. Club members also plan a photographic field trip to the Carson City Capitol at 9 a.m. March 13.
The club welcomes new members - amateurs to professionals. It meets the second Tuesday each month at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Information, club president Doug Dill at (775) 783-4388.
