Sad about Sierra Crest

EDITOR:

I too, was saddened when I read that Sierra Crest charter school is scheduled to close. I did my special assembly program for them three years ago. I have been an educator for over 50 years and was greatly impressed with the Sierra Crest students. They were very courteous and helpful in helping set up for the assembly and their interest was phenomenal as was their sincere appreciation.

I do not know why Sierra Crest Academy was on the No Child Left Behind watch list but I do know that students' emotional and social needs were being met.

I think the parents of Carson Valley have become somewhat skeptical of the school board which seems to be in the habit of keeping superintendents for only three years and then buying up the contracts.

They also seem to be somewhat threatened by new and innovative programs and ideas. I'm not accusing the board of tunnel vision but it's pretty darn close.
