A hearing was continued for a month Tuesday pending court action in Carson City against an admitted 46-year-old drug addict charged with getting in two traffic accidents the same day while under the influence of prescription medicine.
District Judge Dave Gamble set a probation violation hearing March 16 for Timothy Kamchee of Gardnerville, on probation from a 2008 theft conviction for stealing from lockers at two Carson Valley fitness centers.
According to his probation officer, Kamchee took dozens of pills he said he was prescribed for bipolar disorder and back pain.
In one instance, the probation officer said, two days after Kamchee received a prescription for 60 Clonazepam tablets, he had two left. He was supposed to take two-a-day.
He was arrested by the Nevada Highway Patrol on Jan. 14 after two noninjury traffic accidents in Carson City. Witnesses described him as "sedated."
Kamchee also is behind in $1,309 he owes in restitution.
He was kicked out of drug court in August and sent to Douglas County Jail.
"I admit I have a drug problem," Kamchee said. "I don't do street drugs, For the last three years I have been in trouble. I am aware of my problem. I am not violent, I have a job and a family. I pay child support."
Kamchee lost his driver's license, but prosecutor Laurie Trotter said that did not keep him from driving.
"Even without a license, he drives everywhere and he gets in accidents," Trotter said.
He remained in Douglas County Jail.
