Biaggini succumbs to cancer

After an eight-year battle with colon cancer, Douglas County Sheriff's Capt. Mike Biaggini died Wednesday morning at his home in Gardnerville.

Biaggini, 55, who retired from the sheriff's office in January, attended a Jan. 30 retirement party with more than 300 of his co-workers and friends.

He served as a Douglas County law enforcement officer for 28 years and was saluted as a "cop's cop."

Biaggini came to work for the sheriff's office in 1981 and worked in every division, serving as the county's coroner, defense tactics trainer, sniper, professional standards, graduate of the FBI academy, creating the department's honor guard.
