State Sen. Mark Amodei announced his withdrawal from the primary campaign to unseat Sen. Harry Reid.
Amodei, who represents a portion of Douglas County in the Nevada Legislature, said that he was unable to gather the resources needed to mount an adequate campaign for the senate.
"In many instances, voters are drawn to those candidates who expend the largest sums, he wrote in an e-mail to supporters. "I will not mortgage or deficit spend in a campaign any more than I believe that we should not defecit spend or mortgage for our childrens' or Nevada's or America's futures."
Amodei said he will not be endorsing any of the other candidates in the race.
"The voters will make known their endorsement soon enough," he said. "I will complete the remainder of my term as a state senator, and look forward to future opportunities to serve my community, my state, and my country."
Amodei will be serving in the special session of the Legislature scheduled for Tuesday.
