SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The University of Nevada (2-1) baseball team fell 15-4 in the final game of a three-game series to Santa Clara at Schott Stadium (1-2) Sunday afternoon. The Wolf Pack won two of the three games the opening weekend of the season leaving them 2-1 while the Broncos improved to 1-2.
Trailing 7-0 after two innings of play the Pack scored four times in the top of the third inning but SC scored eight unanswered runs to win the contest.
In a battle of two freshmen pitchers making their first collegiate starts the Broncos Jon Hughes (1-0) earned the win allowing four runs on seven hits in six innings on the mound. Pack freshman Tom Jameson (0-1) was tagged with the loss, as he gave up seven runs, one earned in two innings of action.
Designated hitter Brock Stassi (2-for-3,R,2RBI) and second baseman Nick Leid (2-for-4,R) led the Pack with two hits each. Stassi drove in two of Nevada's four runs on the day.
SC center fielder Lucas Herbst (4-for-4,3R,RBI) and left fielder Tommy Medica (4-for-5,3R,5RBI) had four hits each. Medica finished with five RBI and catcher Geoff Klein had three coming on a bases clearing double in the second inning.
Nevada concludes its four-game trip to California with a single game at Saint Mary's College on Monday at 2:00 p.m.
