Douglas High junior Dillon Spates took second place at the state wrestling championships in Las Vegas over the weekend.

He fell to Reno freshman Joey Lavalee 15-8 in a rematch of the Northern 4A final after advancing to the championship round on a 20-4 technical fall over Eldorado's DeAngelo Yates and a 6-1 decision over Damonte Ranch's Spencer O'Neil.

130-pounder Michael Sepulveda advanced to the consolation semifinals with a 10-2 win over Arbor View's Brandon Brian but the road ended there with a 10-5 loss to Palo Verde's Robert Buckhannon. The Douglas senior lost 10-7 to eventual state champion Alexander Aniciente of Las Vegas.

Douglas junior Patrick Miller fell 10-5 to Valley's Oscar Flores in the consolation semifinals after a promising start to the tournament. Miller pinned his first-round opponent Leo McCormick of Pahrump in 1:35, but lost to eventual state-champion Treylor McElhaney of Las Vegas in the second round.
