In a time when statistical numbers of a company's financial performance are more discernible than ever before, Greater Nevada Credit Union believes that its commitment to its members and communities holds significant weight when measuring the organization's overall success.

"Although our bottom line business performance is our top priority, our service to Northern Nevada remains high on our list as it reflects our commitment to the communities that we serve," said Wally Murray, president and chief financial officer for Greater Nevada Credit Union. "Through our Employee Volunteer Program, 85 percent of our employees volunteered with non-profit and charitable organizations throughout Northern Nevada in 2009. Through their efforts, Greater Nevada Credit Union donated 2,975 hours to 46 various organizations throughout the state."

"With a motto of 'Doing the right things for the right reasons,' the Employee Volunteer Program runs full force, year-round," said Gerene Sayre, vice president of human resources. "We encourage our employees to make a difference in their communities by volunteering time to one or more of the 88 approved organizations that we annually support."

Community involvement includes donations, sponsorships, fundraising, and employee volunteerism. Some of the organizations are Advocates to End Domestic Violence, The Salvation Army, Nevada Humane Society, Habitat for Humanity, F.I.S.H., Big Brothers Big Sisters, Food Bank of Northern Nevada and local area school programs.

"Greater Nevada has established strong relationships with many of our community organizations and businesses, and they know they can count on us when they have needs to be filled," said Sayre.

In addition to the individual volunteer hours, Greater Nevada Credit Union is a corporate sponsor of the American Cancer Society Relay for Life and Special Olympics of Nevada.

Greater Nevada Credit Union is a financial cooperative that has served Northern Nevada for more than 60 years. As Northern Nevada's largest credit union, it has more than 53,000 members and $550 million in assets.
