Douglas speech and debate second in league

The Douglas High speech and debate team competed Feb. 19-20 at Damonte Ranch High School and continued to win big in the top events of the tournament.

Douglas is currently in second place as a team in the league with only one tournament left. They had a competitor in every debate semi-final round with 17 schools from all over Northern Nevada competing in five speech events and three debate events.

The following students from Douglas High School received awards for Feb. 20's debate events: Will Dornbrook and Evan Kleiner won third place in senior policy; Kevin Kendrick took second place in senior Lincoln-Douglas; and Noah O'Connor and Kaitlin Barger took first place in senior public forum debate.

Additionally, the following students from Douglas High School received awards for their speaking events on Feb. 19: Nicole Romaneschi won fifth place in senior original oratory; Kevin Kendrick won second place in senior humorous interpretation; Molly Ellery won fifth place in senior impromptu; Vicky Lopez won first place in novice impromptu; Evan Kleiner won fifth place in senior foreign extemporaneous; Noah O'Connor won sixth place in senior foreign extemporaneous; and Roy Dornbrook won third place in novice foreign extemporaneous.

Students from Carson Valley Middle School also performed well receiving the following awards: Mac Cronin won first place in novice foreign extemporaneous; and Joel Kaufman won second place in novice foreign extemporaneous.

The team will soon be traveling to Spring Creek to compete in the last league tournament of the year, where the sweepstakes awards will be announced, which commend schools for their total points acquired for the entire year.
