New Year's Eve was reasonably quiet in Douglas County, with only eight arrests in the downtown casino core in Stateline and a single driving under the influence arrest in Carson Valley during the evening.

Douglas County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Jim Halsey said Highway 50 closed at about 10:15 a.m. to allow an average crowd to move into the street to celebrate the new year.

The highway reopened at 1 a.m. after crowds moved off the street.

Charges filed during the evening included disorderly conduct, trespassing, provoking a breach of peace, battery, and public nudity.

Four persons were arrested outside of the casino core area of Stateline for driving under the influence, disorderly conduct, domestic battery, and destruction of property.

Besides the DUI arrest in Carson Valley, one person was taken into civil protective custody.

Trooper Chuck Allen reported 18 motorists arrested for driving under the influence in Western Nevada between 7 p.m. and 7 a.m. today. Only one of those arrests, near Fernley, involved a property damage accident.

Allen said the other 17 were the result of traffic stops and included 10 arrests made in the Reno-Sparks area, four in Carson City, and one each in Fallon, Hawthorne and Lake Tahoe.

Halsey said the various law enforcement and support agencies involved in this year's event worked extremely well together.

Douglas County Sheriff Ron Pierini thanked those agencies who participated, including: Nevada Highway Patrol, Carson City Sheriff's Office, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, El Dorado County Sheriff's Office, California Highway Patrol, Nevada Department of Prisons, Placer County Sheriff's Office, FBI, Douglas County Communications Center, Douglas County Road Department, Nevada Department of Transportation and Cal-Trans.
