EDITOR:
Recently there have been letters and articles lamenting the fact that people are wearing fur. The writers are people who eat meat and wear leather so it may be assumed that they do not disapprove of raising animals in order to kill them and use them. I would assume therefore that they are objecting to the manner in which the animals are raised and killed.
I would like to suggest that it would do more good to contact legislators in order to pass laws regarding the humane treatment of animals than it does to criticize those who wear fur. Dealing with the cause and not the effect would seem most effective as evidenced by the fact that banning the killing of horses in the United States caused them to endure long, exhausting trips to the border slaughter houses where they are killed in even less humane ways than the United States. Just the opposite of what the public had intended, but an example of dealing with the effect and not the cause.
