ELKO, Nev. (AP) - The Nevada Mining Association says its top goals for 2010 are to educate the public about the industry and its history in the state.

Association President Tim Crowley says the organization wants residents to know the industry works hard to mine safely and with a focus on environmentally sound practices.

Crowley says the association will develop a comprehensive Web site and will do more social outreach using applications like Facebook to provide more information about mining.

The association also plans to expand its membership and anticipates reaching out to a larger number of legislative candidates and newly elected lawmakers because of turnover created by term limits.
