EDITOR:
To those of you who continue to support and approve of a motocross track located in the midst of our rural residential community: You cannot know the depth of our disappointment nor the height of our anger over this situation.
You have allowed acres of pristine land to be scarred and ravaged. You have allowed the destruction of the natural habitat of several species of wildlife. You have wantonly wasted the very limited supply of our desert's natural resource - water.
You have fouled our atmosphere with the fumes of gasoline. You have plagued us with the incessant droning and whining of your non-stop engines. A very few select individuals pursue this dare-devil, adrenaline-spiked recreational activity at the expense of those of us who are paying dearly for the opportunity to enjoy the fragrance of sage and the antics of rabbits and quail.
The excuse of badly needed revenue, which was touted as an anticipated $750,000 (but which came in at barely half of that according to the organizers) is a very poor excuse.
And all of the admissions that this was the "wrong location" from the start, are being ignored and, in fact, the intention is now to allow both our spring and autumn to be disturbed by motocross events. The kittens and puppies at the shelter adjacent to the tract will now experience double periods of trauma and distress and for what?
Our elected officials are failing us, miserably. If they believe we are resigned to the disintegration of our quality of life, they will find out differently when election time is here again.
