The Douglas County Historical Society's Young Chautauqua begins Jan. 12. There will be an information meeting at the Carson Valley Musum & Cultural Center.

This is a program for students in fourth through 12th grade who are interested in history, drama, speech, or just want to have fun.

The student chooses a character from history and performs this character in the first person.

The program meets every other Tuesday evening from 6 to 7 p.m. for 11 sessions.

Starting around May, the young people go out into the community to perform.

Everyone ends up at Mormon Station State Historic Park in Genoa, June 16 and 17 at 5 p.m.

To have a Chautauqua performer at an event, contact the Douglas County Historical Society at the museum at 782-2555.

Chautauqua is funded in part by Nevada Humanities.
