Nominations open for Douglas women in history

The Douglas County Historical Society celebrates National Women in History Month by honoring six Douglas County women at a reception March 20 at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

The historical society is accepting nominations of women who have made a significant historical contribution to the quality of life in Douglas County. The woman nominated, living or deceased, must live or have lived in Douglas County. Women to be honored will be chosen from the nominees by the DCHS Women in History Remembering Project committee.

The theme for the 10th annual Women in History Remembering Project is "Douglas County Women: Preserving Their Legacy for the Future." The remembering program preserves history of Douglas County.

Deadline for submitting nominations is 4 p.m. March 5. Nominating packets available at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville. Packets will be mailed upon request by calling 782-2555 or Helen Chappell at 721-7979.
