At age 26, Pedroia has already earned all of baseball's most prestigious awards: American League Rookie of the Year in 2007 and Most Valuable Player in 2008. His fielding skills have earned him a Golden Glove Award and a place on the All-Star Team. Pedroia's hitting earned him a Silver Slugger Award for best offensive player at his position in the league. He is one of the few career .300 hitters in baseball.
A quote by Pedroia personifies the work ethics that has led to his success: "I just show up to the yard, work hard, and play as hard as I can."
Pedroia, who grew up near Sacramento, also spent two summers playing American Amateur Baseball in Carson City as a 17 and 18-year-old before earning a scholarship to Arizona State University. Welcome back, Dustin.
