Brian Palmer, vice president of GE Energy, will be the keynote speaker at a USDA Rural Development's forum on jobs and economic growth Jan. 21 in Carson City.
The forum will bring together elected officials, small businesses, education advocates, and economic development organizations to get ideas from people in local communities as to what the federal government can actually do to stimulate job growth for Nevada.
The forum is in response to a recent meeting at the White House where President Barack Obama summoned more than a hundred corporate executives, economists, small-business owners and union leaders to sound out ideas for accelerating job growth during the worst labor market in a generation.
USDA was one of the departments tapped to take that brainstorming format out to the people most affected. USDA Rural Development Nevada State Director Sarah Adler will convene the forum and forward a report on the brainstorming ideas to USDA and the White House.
According to Adler, "the people closest to the problem often have the best insight into how to solve it."
Members of the public are invited to attend and participate as are elected officials, business owners, community leaders, labor groups, and schools and colleges.
The meeting will take place 1 to 3 p.m. Jan. 21 in the first floor of the Cedar Building, Marlette Hall, Western Nevada College, 2201 West College Parkway.
